Ditto
Ditto
By Luca
I have a cat named Ditto, he is very thin and all ways sleeping in the day.
Every night Ditto is away hunting and in the morning there is a dead rabbit out the front door.
He is grey with black strips across him. He eats budget meat casserole and cat nuggets. When kids are over they wind him up so he gets all feisty and attacks us.

Ginger is Emily’s Guinea pig. He likes to run, to hide and he likes eating inside by the sofa with Emily.
Ginger lives in hutch outside, with his brother Henry the 8th and Poppet his friend the rabbit.
He has twitchy whiskers, beady eyes and a nose that is always twitching. Ginger is the colour ginger and has funky fur that sticks up in Mohawks all over his body.
Mouse
Mouse
By Abby
Some people have a cat or a dog or a rabbit. Abby has a guinea pig, a guinea pig named Mouse, that lives in a large cage outside on the grass.
Mouse’s cage was a rectangle with wheels, there was an area to run around in and a ramp to go up and down, which he used to hide under. In the inside of the cage was scrunched up newspaper to snuggle up to in winter.
Mouse is a small brown guinea pig with red sensitive eyes that closed in the sun. He has small scaly feet with claws that gave him grip.
One time I put Mouse on the ground to get his carrot. He shot out of the towel and under the couch! It took ten minutes to get him out!

Fishing with Ross
Ross and I drove to the ramp, we put the boat in the water and we sped off to a special spot. I put the line in the water and twenty minutes later I caught a Brown Trout. In half an hour – Zig- the massive fish went under the boat, and then Ross scooped it up in the net because he didn’t want to lose it. One minute later Ross caught a fish.
We turned home, I drove the boat back, Ross put it in the trailer, we drove back and me and Pierson got to play.

The day my house shook

This is a great link to a website where kids who experienced the recent earthquakes in Christchurch are able to share their stories and experiences. The new members of Room 6, Kareem, Fanchea, Olly, Sam, Micah and Ella, have posted their stories today. Have a read of their memories and other Christchurch students and please leave them comments, as I know that they will appreciate your kind words and thoughts.
For us in Hawea it was a slight shake, for them it was much more.

The War Zone
long grasses, trenches, bunkers
And huts. Rocks, trees and
Canyons. Me and my friends
Did what rebels did - fought in the blazing sun or
Ambushed people in the cold freezing night. But,
One day it all changed, diggers and trucks
Drove down the road "Oh no!" they are
Building a house right next to the war zone.
Camp Bay
Dozing in the sun,
Playing Banana Grams in the shack,
Lying in the sunlight
Snoozing
Surrounded by rose bushes
Ditches overgrown
The grass like a blanket
I want more
The Bike Park
Grass grown over jumps,
Big pine trees, three kickers
And a pump track I never
Went to. The blanket of
Children do what they want to do -
Silent moments in the air
Loose dirt on the landing,
Dust flying with wheels
Spinning, tyres thumping
On the Ground
Doing things fun.
The Tree
Deep green leaves that got lighter in the sun,
Long dark shadows and even a small
Crooked wire fence surrounding them.
My thinking times were up there.
Thoughts surrounded that tree
I did what most people do in trees
I climbed, built huts
But mostly I drew what I saw
Doing what my imagination let me

A Few Days out of the Classroom
On Tuesday Gail observed a writing lesson that I taught, where we used James K Baxters poem 'The Town' as a model and then crafted our own poems about places that are special to us. As we complete, edit and publish these poems they will grace cyberspace on the blog to be read by all.
And today I was out of the class, released for testing, in preparation for reports and portfolios that will be written over the next few weeks.
So keep your eyes open for our poetry in this space and I must give a big thanks to Jude and Tash who have taken over the bike park duties over the last few days. The students and the teachers really appreciate all the time that you give.

The power of a letter
Just a short time spent looking at what a letter should look like, brainstorming of ideas and then some time with pencil in hand and we had some amazing results.
With a handful of carefully written letters to the wonderful people of Mitre 10 and Upper Clutha Transport we were able to help us complete the first stage of the tunnel house.
Mitre 10 provided us with seeds, seedlings and wood for the raised gardens, while the guys at Upper Clutha Transport donated us almost half a tonne of Mushroom Compost.
It was a great way to see the power of a letter and to the people of Mitre 10 and Upper Clutha Transport "Thank you very much!"
