Maria Gill's Visit

Maria Gill, a New Zealand author, came and talked to us at school today. She talked about herself, her childhood, her family and where she has travelled to.

She writes Non-Fiction books about New Zealand Animals, Conservation and famous New Zealanders like Rhys Darby, Edmund Hillary and Helen Clark.

She writes every day when her family go to work or school. First she plans her writing, researches, drafts the story, edits it, re-writes it then proof reads it 20 – 50 times. Once this is done and the illustrations are ready she publishes it. Most books take 2-3 months to write, but 50 New Zealanders took 8 months because she had to interview or research 50 people.
